Alabama

Auburn University (AUA): Yes, Access but switching to Specify soon, 5 hrs/week, ca. 65,000 databased, 1 minute/specimen, not currently online but planned, not DiGIR provider, Alabama State Lands Division originally, now Federal Work Study Program.

Troy University (TROY): Yes, Index Kentuckiensis (Access), 5 hrs/week, 5,000 databased, 2 minutes/specimen, not online, not DiGIR provider, personal grants and contracts.

University of Alabama (UNA): Yes, custom Microsoft Access, 10 hrs/week, 32,331 databased, 7 minutes/specimen, a DiGIR provider, funding through AL Dept of Conservation, Lands Division.

University of South Alabama (USAM): Yes, Excel at present but considering Index Kentuckiensis, 10 hrs/week, 1,700 databased, in early stages of gettin in online, plan to be DiGIR provider in future, funding from NOAA and AL-DCNR State Lands for exotic invasive pest plants.

Florida

University of Florida (FLAS): Yes, Custom MS-Visual Foxpro application deployed on web in MS SQL Server and MS-ASP scripted web pages, 30 hrs/wk, 35,125 databased and on web, additional 5,000 databased but in need of verification, 10 specimens/minute, online, waiting until security concerns addressed prior to becoming DiGIR provider, currently providing data to the Linking Florida Natural Heritage Project via a Z39.50 interface.

The reply regarding FLAS database funding: The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and the Florida Museum of Natural History support the University of Florida Herbarium. The USDA provides some minimal funding for computerization. The Florida Museum of Natural History provides the web server for our databases. The University of Florida Digital Libraries collaborate by providing free imaging services and the Florida Center for Library Automation provides the SID server.

Florida State University (FSU): Yes, MySQL back-end with PHP front-end, ca. 33 hrs/wk entry, ca. 21 hrs/wk proofing, 9,800 specimens, online, funded by NSF Biological Databases and Informatics and Florida Dept. of Environmental Protection Bureau of Invasive Plant Management.

University of West Florida (UWFP): No.

Georgia

University of Georgia (GA): yes, Access, 10-17 hrs/wk checking ids and 10-15 hrs/wk entering data, 44,000 databased, rate unknown, online access is last phase so not online yet, not DiGIR provider, Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources originally, now (2004-6) NSF Biological Research Collections.

Valdosta State University (VSC): No.

Louisiana

Louisiana State University (LSU):

Tulane University (NO): Yes (Historic Louisiana Collections, those pre-1910), Word Perfect, 0-5 hrs/wk, ca. 800 databased, 6 mins/specimen, not online, not DiGIR provider, no funding.

Mississippi

Gulf Coast Research Lab (HGCRL): yes, Specify, 5-10 hrs/week, none databased.

Mississippi State University (MISSA):

University of Mississippi (MISS): IK/Access on web via MySQL, 0 hrs/week at present, ca. 59,000 databased, 5 minutes/specimen, online, not DiGIR provider yet, NSF funded in past.

University of Southern Mississippi: No.
